Born and raised in South Alabama. Been a lot, done a lot. Firefighter, pastor, business owner, syndicated columnist, editor, salesman, military historian, survival and prepping expert, twice champion marksman (Alabama State Games 1991-92), marine broker, pipeline and structural welder, commercial and institutional maintenance tech and supervisor. Damn, makes me tired just thinking about it. Anyway, received my B.A. from University of South Alabama. Double major in English (with concentration in English Literature) and Military History. Useless, I know, but fun nonetheless. My greatest accomplishments are my kids. Daughter is a veteran O.R nurse, smart as a whip. Son is a patrol officer in a small Alabama town, big guy..... yes sir and no sir kind of guy.... serious when on duty, no nonsense... but a really great guy. Very, very proud of both of them. Married to same wonderful lady for 36 years. Love of my life. Wouldn't trade my life with anyone. Retiring soon, and looking forward to expanding the L.A. Chronicle series well into the future. I 've got lots of other stories to tell.
