“The Night of the Hunter”: A Biography of a Film was selected by the Financial Times of London as one of its Best Books of the Year. Edited an annotated edition of two screenplays by James Agee, “The Night of the Hunter” and “The African Queen”: First and Final Screenplays (volume 4 in The Works of James Agee, a series published by University of Tennessee Press). Received a commission from Florida Studio Theatre to write a play, Master of the Revels, based on the true story of William Henry Ireland, who forged Shakespeare documents in the 1790s. FST gave the play a staged reading in July 2022. Collaborated on the play Three Wise Guys, based on two stories by Damon Runyon (staged Off-Broadway at New York’s Beckett Theatre). Wrote book and lyrics for two musicals: Battleship Potemkin, based on Sergei Eisenstein’s silent film (staged reading in Berlin by Gallisas Theaterverlag and presented at the York Theatre in New York City); Blood and Fire, about the beginnings of the Salvation Army (presented at the York Theatre and selected by Theater Resources Unlimited for its TRU VOICES Reading Series). Collaborated on screenplays for Imagine Films, Warner Bros. TV, and other studios, and has published short stories in many literary journals.
