William Kemsley

William Kemsley Jr is founder of BACKAPCKER magazine and is said to be father of modern hiking and backpacking. He began backpacking as a 12-year-old Boy Scount on his first overnight hike. He has been a life-long hiker ever since who has spent coiunless nights camped in forests, mountains, canyons and deserts of the US and Europe.

He has also been a mountaineer and rock climber since the 1950s, credited with some impressive first ascents. He has climbed in many of the mountain ranges of the US, Europe, and Canada.
