Dorothy P. O'Neill was born in 1915 on Staten Island, NY. She started writing poetry at the age of seven. Her first published works were light verses, published in Good Housekeeping, Ladies Home Journal and other women's magazines. During the 1960's she wrote a weekly humor column for The Staten Island Register, and also wrote advertising copy for the Montgomery Ward Catalog. Her first novel, a romance, was published in 1993 by Avalon Books and was followed by four more romances. In October 2001, Double Deception, the first in an eight mystery series was published by Avalon. The final book in the series, Caught Dead, came out in September 2010.
She lived in Greensboro, NC for twenty-one years and currently resides in Mooresville, NC. Twice widowed, Dorothy had four sons, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two step children, and two step grandchildren.
Dorothy expects to go on writing indefinitely and currently has more projects in the works. Photograph taken October 2012.
