James M. Yokley

James M. Yokley, Ph.D., is a Clinical Psychologist and certified substance abuse provider. He has expertise in the cognitive-behavioral treatment of multiple forms of unhealthy, harmful behavior and has authored over 100 professional articles, books, chapters and presentations. He has been an invited book editor and an Ad-Hoc journal reviewer for five professional journals. His medical staff experience in the Department of Psychiatry at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio includes serving as the Behavioral Health Director of the MetroHealth Weight Loss Surgery & Weight Management Center and Clinical Director of the MetroHealth Recovery Services addiction programs. In addition, he provided staff consultation and training to the CommQuest outpatient and residential drug and alcohol treatment programs in Stark County, Ohio.

Dr. Yokley has over 20 years of experience in training, teaching and supervising psychiatry residents, psychology and counseling graduate students, social workers, nursing staff and substance abuse treatment providers along with over 10 years of experience in training foster parents on managing unhealthy, harmful behavior. His academic appointments have included Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, CWRU Department of Psychological Sciences and Cleveland State University Psychology Department site supervisor.

Dr. Yokley developed and implemented 10 behavioral health treatment programs in outpatient, day treatment and residential settings for the treatment of unhealthy, harmful, addictive behavior problems that are primarily harmful to self (e.g., overeating, substance misuse) and others (e.g., sexually abusive behavior). The Social Responsibility Therapy intervention model that he has developed, integrates healthy behavior and relationship success skills with relapse prevention tools to target the primary contributing factors of unhealthy, harmful behavior.
