Geoff Brookes

I was born in 1951 and spent my childhood in Sheffield. I went to Leicester University to study English and History and graduated in 1972. I became a teacher after training for a year in Birmingham.

I started my career in Gateway Sixth Form College in Leicester and then moved to my wife's home town of Swansea in 1981. We have lived there ever since. I worked in Dillwyn Llewelyn Community School and then moved to Cefn Hengoed Community School as Deputy Head in 1991 where I have remained ever since.

Most of my writing has developed from my job as a teacher, as you can see from my titles. The books on Dyspraxia were inspired by my son David who suffers from the condition and has achieved impressive things in spite of it. I have particularly enjoyed writing the study guides for GCSE English literature students which you will also find on the list.

A lot of my spare time is taken up with the research I carry out into Welsh Gravestones and the stories of the people who lie beneath the stones. You can seee the results of my work in the book Stories in Welsh Stone Volume 1 which examines dramatic stories of sudden death shipwreck and murder!
