Daniel T. Daley

My name is Daniel T. Daley. Friends call me Dan. I was born and raised in Omaha Nebraska. I attended the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1971 with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and a commission as a Lieutenant in the US Air Force. After serving a four-year tour as an Air Force officer (in Selma Alabama and Osan Korea), I returned to school at the University of Missouri, Columbia. There I received a MS in Mechanical Engineering.

My career began with Shell Oil Company where I held a variety of positions in engineering, maintenance and operations. I held the position of Director of Maintenance and Reliability for several companies including Shell, OxyChem and Union Pacific. For the last ten years I have been providing consulting services through my company "My Reliability Team" based on many of the concepts contained in my books.

The first seven books I wrote were on the subjects of reliability and maintenance excellence. Since then, I have written more than thirty additional books on a variety of subjects. Some of my books are intended to help individuals who do not have engineering educations perform tasks in ways engineers might use. I choose to call those books "Quasi-Technical" books.

I have also written a variety of fictional books on various subjects. I tend to look for subjects that are somehow connected to non-fictional events. For instance, during the time I was working for Shell in Washington state, and we were conducting a maintenance outage on one of our large boilers, another plant in the area was doing the same thing. The only difference was, when they opened the steam drum on their boiler, they found it contained the skeleton of a person. That turned out to be a creepy situation for the individuals in our plant who had to enter our steam drum first. It was difficult for them to enter the steam drum without thinking about someone closing the manways behind them and locking them inside the darkened drum as it was being filled with hot water then steam. I thought that experience could for the basis for one of my books, "The Man in the Steel Drum".

Another book that was based on a real-life situation is my book "Little Gramma's House". In that book, Little Gramma was a real person, my great grandmother, and the young girls, Sis and Nub, are my mother and my aunt. And Little Gramma's house did exist. One morning, three dead bodies were found inside of that house. The notes that were left behind told the story of a double murder-suicide that resulted in the gruesome scene that was found in that house. While I was growing up, my mother occasionally told me about that event and, finally, I was able to turn the story into a fictional account for my readers.

More recently I have been writing fictional novels that are available both as e-books and paperback books through Kindle and Amazon. Titles include Hunting the Unicorn, The Wrong Kind of Dog, The Man in the Steel Drum, A Mind in the Gutter, Just Too Late, Always in Threes, The Guard Dog, The Smell of Money, The Inevitable War, Godsend, Misplaced Promises and Little Gramma's House. Many of those books found their beginnings in actual events that I personally experienced. I hope you read and enjoy them.
