Nathaniel Frank

Nathaniel is an author, historian, commentator, and LGBTQ strategist. Author of Awakening: How Gays and Lesbians Brought Marriage Equality to America (Harvard University Press, April 2017), he is best known for his work helping to end the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy after writing the critically acclaimed Unfriendly Fire: How the Gay Ban Undermines the Military and Weakens America, which won the American Library Association’s Stonewall Book Award. A frequent contributor to Slate, he is currently the director of Columbia Law School's What We Know Project, a research initiative that collects scholarship on LGBTQ public policy.
