James Gaitis is an award-winning novelist and international arbitrator, and the author of three novels: A Stout Cord and A Good Drop—a novel of the founding of Montana; The Nation’s Highest Honor—a literary satire (named a 2009 Southwest Book of the Year); and The View from Stansberry Lookout, another literary satire to be published by Guernica Editions in the Fall of 2026. He obtained a BA in English Lit from the University of Notre Dame and a JD from the University of Iowa College of Law. Together with his wife and soulmate of over four decades, he currently lives in the foothills of the Gila in Southwest New Mexico.
