Jack Williams

Jack Williams is Emeritus Professor of Landscape Architecture and former Chair, School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture , Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama. He writes about urban form in small towns across the United States.

His first book, "East 40 Degrees: An Interpretive Atlas," studies small towns from Alabama through the Appalachian Mountains to the coast of Maine. His second book, "Easy on, Easy off: The Urban Pathology of America's Small Towns," explores the influence of the Inter-State Highway System on America's small towns. The University of Virginia Press publishes both books.

"East 40 Degrees" was awarded the J. B. Jackson Prize by the Foundation for Landscape Studies in 2008.

Professor Williams is a Fulbright Distinguished Scholar in Landscape Architecture and Urban Design.
