William B. Hanford is a native Detroiter, a World War II veteran, who has written his memoir of serving as a field artillery forward observer in France Germany, and Austria, for which he found a publisher(Stackpole Books)at the age of 87. He taught school for forty years in Michigan public schools, sold watercolors at street art fairs for twenty years after retirement and now has three books he is working on-- all of them memoirs. He writes each of them as a novel first in order to get a maximum of dialogue and character development, then reworke them for historically important facts.
