Michelle M. Sauer

Michelle M. Sauer is Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor of English and Gender Studies at the University of North Dakota. She specializes in Middle English language and literature, especially women’s devotional literature, anchorites and hermits, and monastic texts, as well as queer/gender theory and Church history. She is the author of Gender in Medieval Culture, and editor of The Companion to Sexuality in the Medieval West, The Palgrave Encyclopedia of Women’s Writing in the Global Middle Ages, and The Lesbian Premodern among many other items. Among her current projects are a monograph about solitary sexuality and The Routledge Handbook of Medieval Christian Women in Europe.
