Larry D. Thomas

Larry D. Thomas, a member of the Texas Institute of Letters, was the 2008 Texas Poet Laureate. He has published several collections of poetry, most recently In a Field of Cotton: Mississippi River Delta Poems and As If Light Actually Matters: New & Selected Poems which was selected as a 2015 Writers' League of Texas Book Awards Finalist (poetry category). Among the numerous prizes and awards he has received for his poetry are the 2004 Violet Crown Award (Writers' League of Texas), the 2003 and 2015 Western Heritage Awards (Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma), two Texas Review Poetry Prizes (2001 and 2004), a Violet Crown Book Awards Special Citation, a Poets' Prize nomination (Nicholas Roerich Museum), and eight nominations for the Pushcart Prize.
