James M. Popkin

James (Jamie) M. Popkin is group vice president and research fellow emeritus in Gartner Research responsible for the Business Intelligence and Information Management research group. Mr. Popkin co-authored IT and the East with Partha Iyengar which was published by Harvard Business School Press on April 24, 2007.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Popkin was responsible for Gartner research content strategy in China, India and Korea, served as worldwide Head of Research for Vertical Industries and Gartner Asia/Pacific & Japan and was Chairman of Gartner U.S. and Japan Symposia/ITxpo.

Mr. Popkin has served as a senior advisor to the Shanghai Luwan District, the China Business Continuity Management Association and the Tianjin Binhai New Area.

He has extensive experience in public speaking in Asia including the Seoul Digital Forum; the Sino-India IT Industry Conference, sponsored by the Beijing National Development and Reform Council; Waseda University Business School Marketing Forum; Info China 2004-2005, sponsored by CCID and the China State Council; and the Korea Ministry of Information and Communication Annual Conference.

Mr. Popkin has also served as a board member of the Association for Image and Information Management (AIIM) International Board of Directors. Mr. Popkin earned a B.A. degree in Economics from Connecticut College; a Master of Public Policy degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University; and a Management Certificate from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.
