Grant W. Petty

Grant W. Petty is an Emeritus Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Over a 34-year academic career, including 10 years on the faculty at Purdue University, he taught and conducted research while helping students understand the physics of Earth's atmosphere. Committed to making complex scientific topics accessible to newcomers, he wrote and self-published widely used textbooks on atmospheric radiation and thermodynamics and later founded Sundog Publishing.

In 2018, Petty was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Drawing on his scientific background, years of experience as a patient, and extensive input from physicians, pharmacists, patient advocates, and fellow patients, he wrote *Multiple Myeloma—A Patient's Perspective: What to Expect, What to Do, and How to Cope*. Although the subject is very different, the motivation is the same: to explain complex topics clearly, accurately, and without unnecessary jargon, helping readers understand unfamiliar territory and make informed decisions.

Petty lives in Madison, Wisconsin, where he continues to write, publish, and pursue interests in science, education, music, and technology.
