Paul Schmidtberger was born and raised in Schooley's Mountain, New Jersey. He attended Yale College and Stanford Law School and is a member of the California bar. He lives in Paris, and is a professor in the law school at the University of Paris II-Panthéon Assas. His essays have appeared in the New York Times, the Boston Globe Magazine, Post Road, and Thema. He is a member of the board of directors of the First Pages Prize.
Design Flaws of the Human Condition is his first novel, and it was the book of the month for Insight-Out Books.
