Will Morrison

Will Morrison was born in 1933 in north Belfast, Northern Ireland. At fourteen years of age, he left School to serve an apprenticeship in ship joinery at Harland and Wolff, the Belfast shipyard. In 1954, after a year of studying Latin and French at an evening class taught by an eighty year old Latin schoolmaster, he matriculated at Trinity College, Dublin, and left the shipyard to attend university. He has degrees from Trinity College, Dublin and McGill University , Montreal. He and his Derry-born bride, Margaret, emigrated to Canada in 1960. An ordained minister, he served thirteen years with The United Church of Canada. At forty-five years of age, he changed his vocation to teaching philosophy and Englisn and Canadian literature at a college in British Columbia, from which he retired in 1997. He now devotes his time to reading,writing stories set in Belfast and Canada,regular exercise at a Seniors' gym, and long summers at a cottage he built with hand tools and a chain saw on Cortes Island, B.C. He and Margaret live in Burnaby, British Columbia. They have three daughters and seven grandchildren. His book,BETWEEN THE MOUNTAINS AND THE GANTRIES, is an account, in the form of autobiographical short stories, of his boyhood in Belfast and early youth at the shipyard. The book was short-listed in 2007 for the Glen Dimplex New Writers' Award,(U.K. and Ireland)in association with the Irish Writers Centre, Dublin.
