I grew up in suburban New Jersey where my next-door neighbors had a horse. Of course I wanted one of my own, and to write. I got my BA from the University of Michigan and did graduate work at the University of Santa Barbara, CA--where I bought my first horse--and later earned an MFA from USC. I currently write a horse column for the Pueblo Chieftain, the oldest daily newspaper in Colorado. In 1978 I married John Fry, a horse trainer who reinvented himself to be a successful businessman. We were married for 46 years before cancer took him. Currently I live in Colorado with two dogs and a 20-year-old cat. I've been fortunate to be doing exactly what I had hoped to do as a youngster. I still ride my horse.
