I am Reader in Sociology at University of York. My book ‘The Return of the Housewife: Why Women are Still Cleaning Up’ explores the ways that the unpaid labour of women is currently being glamourised and repositioned as empowering 'self-care' within social media cultures. Today women continue to do most unpaid labour and are promised that housework is good for the soul - a route to health and happiness. In The Return of the Housewife I explain why this is a regressive myth. The book has appeared in a wide variety of printed and recorded media including Stylist magazine, the Evening Standard, Yorkshire Post, Grazia and Morning Star.
