David D'Arcy's passion for the Civil War began in childhood when
he started to read about the great battles that helped shape the
course of the United States. For summer vacations, he and his family
explored the Civil War battlefields of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. During breaks in
college, David interpreted 1860s military life at Fort Ontario State Historic Site in New York.
He was drilled in both infantry and light artillery manual of arms. Throughout adulthood, he
has traversed all of the major battlefields east of the Mississippi River. His favorite area of study
is General James Longstreet's First Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia.
David earned his Bachelor of Arts in history at the State University of New York, the
College at Oswego, and his Masters of Education at Armstrong Atlantic State University
in Savannah, Georgia. David has spent a good part of his life living in the Low Country and
exploring its Civil War history.
Other experiences include over fifteen years in the hospitality industry. He has been
published in Savannah Magazine and was also cast as an extra in a documentary, "Phantoms of
History in Savannah," in which e played a secessionist istigator. "Civil War Tour of Charleston"
is his third book on the Civil War.
Other interests include kayaking, entertaining, traveling, playing sports, and photography.
He has traveled a good part of the Southeast of the United States, the West Coast, Mexico,
and Western Europe. David currently resides in Savannah and sells real estate on Daufuskie
Island, Hilton Head, and Savannah.
