Beth Maynor Young has been working in Alabama and the southeast as a conservation photographer for over twenty five years. The river photography began with a simple "yes" to the Cahaba River Society when asked if she would be interested in photographing the river. Exploring the Cahaba lead to many other rivers as well becoming involved in the issues the rivers face and the folks working to protect them. It was a journey discovering and the beauty and mystery of Alabama's rivers, camping along the banks and traveling at the speed of the current.
The Headwaters book was an attempt to create an identity for the finest rivers in Alabama as they face exponentially increasing threats, in order to support efforts of river advocates working to protect these rivers from further degradation.
Longleaf, Far as the Eye Can See, written by Bill Finch, Rhett Johnson and John Hall, was created to support the efforts of the Longleaf Alliance. http://longleafalliance.org This book has exceeded all of our expectations. It was once the largest forest ecosystem in North America and though reduced in size, it is still the most biologically rich forest ecosystem in North America.
I am now using my photography and partnering with my son Spence Maynor and working as a land specialist for Tutt Land Company, finding exceptional owners for exceptional properties.
