Kamiel S. Gabriel

Dr. Gabriel holds Bachelor of Science (honours) and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alexandria, Egypt, and Ph.D. from the University of Manitoba, Canada. He holds a diploma in Space Science from the International Space University, Strasburg, France, and an M.B.A. from the Edwards School of Business, Saskatoon, Canada. He is the recipient of several national and international awards and is an elected fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (C.A.E.), and a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Science, Society and Policy (ISSP). Dr. Gabriel is also a fellow of the Balsillie School of International Affairs, Waterloo, Canada.

Dr. Gabriel is the founding Associate Provost of Research and Graduate Programs at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). In 2009, Dr. Gabriel was seconded to the Ontario Ministry of Research & Innovation as the Assistant Deputy Minister of Research and its first ever Science Adviser. During that time, Dr. Gabriel focused on laying the foundation for strategic planning and evidence-based innovation policy.

Dr. Gabriel is the co-founder and past president of the Durham Strategic Energy Alliance (DSEA), a not-for-profit organization with a vision to make the Durham Region's energy cluster one of the leading clusters in North America. He is an author and frequent guest speaker in national and international conferences and seminars.
