Michael S. Jones

Dr. Michael S. Jones (PhD, Temple University) is a professor of philosophy and religion at Liberty University, a three-time Fulbright scholar, and past president of the Virginia Philosophical Association. He is a cofounder and executive editor of the Journal for the Study of Religions and Ideologies and a member of the editorial board of the journal East-West Cultural Passage. His most intense areas of philosophical interest are philosophy of religion and the 20th century Romanian philosopher Lucian Blaga, although he also does a fair amount of work in ethics and philosophical theology. His major current project is translating Lucian Blaga’s works into English.

Dr. Jones began his professional career teaching theology and philosophy in Romania, where he has traveled on short-term mission trips, participated in philosophy conferences, and lived while teaching at Babes-Bolyai University, the University of Bucharest, and Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu. His earliest experiences in public speaking and teaching took place in small Baptist churches in Pennsylvania, where he grew up, and Wisconsin, where he went to college. He has taught Sunday school classes for children, youth, and adults and occasionally preached. Now he continues these activities in Virginia, where he currently resides, and whenever he is in Romania.

Dr. Jones is a devout Christian. His other interests include his beloved family, his antique Italian motorcycles, fencing (preferably saber), and Brazilian Jiujitsu. He plays the violin, viola, and cello on the level of a hobbyist. He also enjoys hiking and camping.
