John Keeble is the author of five novels, including reprinted versions of YELLOWFISH and BROKEN GROUND. YELLOWFISH concerns illegal immigration to the U.S. through Canada. BROKEN GROUND, though first published in 1987, takes up a related subject, recounting the construction of a private, for-profit prison in Eastern Oregon that is to house illegal, Hispanic immigrants. In 2013, Keeble published what has been described as an eco-thriller about oil exploration in the far north, THE SHADOWS OF OWLS. He's also the author of the nonfiction work, OUT OF THE CHANNEL: THE EXXON VALDEZ OIL SPILL IN PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND.
A widely anthologized and prize winning short story writer, his book of stories, NOCTURNAL AMERICA, was issued in paper in 2013. He continues to write and publish stories and has recently completed a novel which is presently under submission. He is a Guggenheim Fellow.
He lives with his wife in a log house they built in Eastern Washington farm country over forty years ago and they have three children, all of whom are musicians.
