William Thompson-Uberuaga

William Thompson-Uberuaga (1943-), born in Boise, Idaho, of Basque-American heritage, is an emeritus professor of theology, Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA, currently living in the Boise, ID, area with his wife, Dr. Patricia Marie Kobielus Thompson, also a theologian, and author of FROM DARK NIGHT TO GENTLE SURRENDER: ON THE ETHICS AND SPIRITUALITY OF HOSPICE CARE. Among his published seven books is THE JESUS DEBATE, which greatly established his reputation in theology and Christology. Several of his later books, such as FIRE AND LIGHT: THE SAINTS AND THEOLOGY and CHRISTOLOGY AND SPIRITUALITY, along with his edited book in the Classics of Western Spirituality Series BERULLE AND THE FRENCH SCHOOL, also established his solid reputation in the area of spirituality. His work focuses on the connection(s) between theology, philosophy, political theory, and spirituality/mysticism. He believes that it is largely the mystics (of the open-eyed variety) who are the great movers in human history. Besides the noted mystics of the various religious traditions, East and West, and among the first peoples, he is also a serious student of such as Evelyn Underhill, Friedrich von Hugel, Karl Rahner, Ilia Delio, Thomas Merton, Elaine Heath, Teilhard de Chardin, Rowan Williams, numerous contemporary Eastern Orthodox theologians, Eric Voegelin, Ken Wilber, Richard Rohr, and other mystically-oriented thinkers. His most recent work, which is from Cascade Books, is YOUR KIN-DOM COME: THE LORD'S PRAYER IN A GLOBAL AGE. A priest of the Episcopal Diocese Of Idaho, he assists in various parishes, and is a priest associate of St. Michael's Cathedral, Boise.
