Alan L. Gillen

Dr. Alan Gillen is a microbiologist and zoologist with a doctorate in science education. He is Professor of Biology at Liberty University in Virginia where he has taught since 2004. He has taught microbiology, anatomy & physiology and parasitology at the college level and general biology in high school since 1980. He has authored more than 40 papers and four books in the areas of microbiology, and anatomy & physiology. In addition to writing The Genesis of Germs and Body by Design (with Master Books), he has authored a companion book, The Human Body: An Intelligent Design and has written a microbiology lab manual for nursing students. He is currently studying the effects of various hand sanitizers on the growth of bacteria. His favorite bacteria to study adaptation are Serratia marcescens, Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli.

In all of his books, he provides biological evidence for creation. He has been active in bringing a creation perspective in microbiology and human anatomy & physiology in the classroom and local churches for about 20 years. He is also a regular contributor to biology journals. He enjoys interweaving biblical principles with biology in the classroom. His professional interests include the origin of infectious diseases and the history of microbiology and medicine. His favorite biologists are Louis Pasteur and Joseph Lister. His favorite books in the Bible are Genesis, Luke, and Proverbs. Outside of the lab and classroom, he enjoys family walks with his wife Jayne and his sheltie collies, and jogging.
