James McGee was born in 1936 and grew up in the-then small farm town of Lomita in Southern CA. After working his way through UCLA and graduating with a BA in 1959 he enlisted in U.S. Army Intelligence in 1960. He received a direct Field Commission during Vietnam in 1962 receiving an honorable discharge in 1964. Subsequently he became a U.S. Foreign Service Officer advancing to become Assistant to the Secretary of State.
Leaving Government service he entered the corporate world and earned a Master's degree through night courses at Wayne State University, Detroit, in 1968. He became the youngest General Manager in a Fortune 60 company and after attending the Harvard University Graduate School of Business (1971) he attained his personal goal of being President of a company by age 40. ($116-million in sales and 1,400 employees).
In 1978 he received a U.S. Patent and started his own company which was purchased by his largest competitor and he relocated with his late wife to the retirement community of Sun City, CA.
An avid traveler McGee has visited 86 countries and is fluent in French and German. He has endowed academic scholarships at UCLA, Wayne State University and UMass in honor of his late son.
His retirement years have been occupied with travel, writing six books, volunteer teacher of Adult Literacy and wine educator at various wineries in Temecula Valley, "Southern California's Wine Country".
