L. Mickey Fenzel

L. Mickey Fenzel, Ph.D., was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and obtained three degrees from Cornell University, including a Ph.D. in developmental psychology. He taught junior high school and high school in Groton and Ithaca, NY, and Baltimore, Maryland. In addition to his teaching he coached lacrosse at Ithaca High School and the Gilman School. He has authored several articles on the transition from elementary to middle school and, more recently, on successful alternative urban middle schools for children placed at risk. His book, Improving Urban Middle Schools: Lessons from the Nativity Schools, examines one model of successful urban middle schools. Dr. Fenzel has been on the faculty at Loyola University Maryland since 1989 and currently serves as the associate dean of Loyola's School of Education.
