Avery was reared in Lansing, Michigan and moved to Texas in 1993 where she began her second career in sex education. Prior to entering the world of self-help, she has ghostwritten two novels and published several short stories. She has won numerous accolades for her work, including contest wins with Veggie Life, the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Festival Humor Award, Johnson County Novel Writing Contest and the San Gabriel Writer's League Contest.
Between writing nonfiction and conducting seminars, Avery volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and many animal organizations. She is married to a pilot/handyman and has two teenage daughters. She lives in Dallas, Texas and commutes often to both New York and LA. A writer of wit and logic, Avery is often funny and informative at the same time.
