Joe Spooner was born in 1946, the second son of a Marine Corps pilot and of a commercial artist. He attended nine different grade schools, two high schools but only one college. Joe was the perfect son: he became an Air Force pilot (taking his dad's advice, he didn't join the Marines —thanks, Dad) and then a commercial artist.
Joe lives and works (if you call sitting downstairs drawing and coloring "work") in Welches, Oregon. He and his wife, Patti, a nurse midwife, have two children, Norah and John, neither of whom are now children — how did that happen? — and both of whom now have children themselves.
Joe has written and illustrated three children's books. He only writes about himself in the third person when he is writing a biography. Autobiographies, now that's different.
