Nancy J. Eshelman

I'm a mom, grandma and a newspaper columnist who has been writing weekly in the Harrisburg, PA Patriot-News since 1989. Although I sometimes write about local, state, and national issues, I've found over the years that my most popular columns are about family, emotions, and just the everyday details of life.

For that reason, I've chosen to focus in my books on columns that have a timeless quality. The way we feel about our families, the thrill of holding a newborn, the emotions that come watching a granddaughter graduate from high school don't change from one decade to the next.

Because they are timeless, I hope you will find something familiar when you read my words of wisdom, such as:

“Seven-year-old boys also have a way of making you feel bad about yourself, such as asking, ‘So what year were you born, 1800-what?’"

“No woman wants a toaster or coffeemaker or a new pasta strainer for Valentine's Day. I don't care how much it costs. That is not going to cut it.”

“Nothing is more comfortable than sitting in the kitchen talking to a girlfriend.”
