John P. Bowen

John Bowen likes to think of himself as a translator, in the C.S.Lewis sense. He tries to take the sometimes obscure language of academia and translate it for "ordinary folk." He also works at taking the inhouse language of Christian faith and translating it for those who are curious but find the jargon a barrier. (Lewis writes about this in several places: one is his "Rejoinder to Dr Pittenger.") Officially, John is Professor of Evangelism (one of those ugly inhouse words) at Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto, and Director of the College's Institute of Evangelism.

His books are an indication of his wide interests, from C.S.Lewis to the spirituality of young people, and from "evangelism" to the story of a pioneer missionary in Tanzania. I suppose, if there is a common theme, it would be that Christian faith is actually good news, something that Christians and others seem easily to forget.
