Quinlan trained as a wildlife biologist, obtaining degrees from Colorado State University (B.S.) and the University of Alaska (M.S.) She worked many years in Alaska working for various federal and state wildlife agencies, conducting wildlife research in several parts of the state. She also developed award-winning educational and curriculum materials about Alaska’s natural history. She went on to work several years as a naturalist guide for Lindblad Expeditions. In this position, she explored and learned about diverse environments around the world, from the high arctic tundra to neotropical rainforests, arid deserts to oceanic islands.

After 30 years in Alaska, Quinlan returned to her native Colorado where she and her husband built an energy-efficient solar-powered home in the front range foothills. When she isn’t out exploring or teaching, she is most likely at home working on a multitude of nature-related projects, surrounded by furry companions and piles of books and papers.

Susan enjoys sharing her passion for nature and conservation with others through writing, artwork, school programs, and public speaking. Contact her via her website: www.susanquinlan.com
