Tom Savage

Born in 1945 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. I grew up on Iowa farms. First in my grandfather's house, then in a more modest farm home on an acreage my parents bought near my grandfather's home. It was an idyllic childhood with horses and ponies and all sorts of other assorted farm animals. Living in a small community I had an opportunity to observe the quirks of many of the people around me. I am under no illusion that the characters there were special in any way, but I firmly believe that if you pull back the curtains on any life you will find fascinating aspects.

In my life I obviously worked on a mid century Iowa farm, I have been a meat cutter in a Chicago supermarket, a painter in a fireplace factory, a ditch digger, a laborer in the Ford Motor Company Milpitas, California facility, a lab tech for the Kaiser Research facility currently located in Pleasanton, California. Other work I have done includes working in a fertilizer plant as a laborer, and following a bit of education an Assistant Director of Financial Aid at the University of Iowa. I then worked for close to 30 years for Eastern Iowa Community College, primarily as a Counselor.

I had the good fortune and sense to marry Sharon in St. Charles, Illinois in 1965. The single best decision in my life.

I have a deep interest in research which complements my wife Sharon's ability to bring to life the characters we focus on. My first book was really just an exercise in research which I truly loved.

But I find that I am passionate about the book that Sharon and I have done together. It is not just dry dusty facts but people, in all their pettiness and grandeur. I am looking forward to many more collaborations as we investigate and sometimes create characters.
