Katie Sciurba grew up in Los Angeles. She has a BA in Literatures of the World from UC San Diego, an MFA in Creative Writing for Children from The New School, an MS in Elementary Education from Mercy College, and a Ph.D. in English Education from New York University. She is the author of works for children, including the picture book, OYE, CELIA!: A SONG FOR CELIA CRUZ (Henry Holt, 2007). She is currently a faculty member at the University of Georgia, where she teaches literacy education and children's literature courses. She is also the author of the academic book, READING AND RELEVANCE, REIMAGINED: CELEBRATING THE LITERACY LIVES OF YOUNG MEN OF COLOR (Teachers College Press, 2024).
