Neil Coffee

Neil Coffee writes about the history, literature, and culture of ancient Rome and their connections to the modern world. His the author of The Commerce of War: Exchange and Social Order in Latin Epic (Chicago, 2009) and Gift and Gain: How Money Transformed Ancient Rome (Oxford, 2016). He has published two edited journal volumes and numerous scholarly articles. He also has interests in the digital humanities. He leads the Tesserae Project, which develops and maintains a free website for intertextual literary research. He is Associate Professor of Classics at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
