Elsa Hahne

Author and Photographer Elsa Hahne is the author of You Are Where You Eat: Stories and Recipes from the Neighborhoods of New Orleans (University Press of Mississippi, 2008), The Gravy: In the Kitchen with New Orleans Musicians (High ISO Music, 2013), and the Art Director and Food Editor at OffBeat magazine. She has won seven first-place New Orleans Press Club awards for her work in photography and design, as well as the Hal Ledet Print Photography Award. Elsa Hahne is an alumna of New York University where she received a Joint M.A. in Journalism and French Studies. While at NYU, she also received two fellowships, the MacCracken Fellowhip and the Michel Fribourg Fellowship. Elsa Hahne lives in the Lower Garden District in New Orleans with her partner and their three children. Together with her partner, she runs High ISO Music, an online documentary photography journal (highisomusic.com), featuring their music photography. Elsa Hahne has worked as a freelance writer and photographer in Sweden, France, China and the U.S. since 1994, and speaks Swedish, French, and English. Elsa Hahne grew up in Sweden, and lived for three years in Bordeaux, France, where she earned a diploma in wine and a Diplôme Supérieur d'Etudes Françaises, before moving to the U.S. in 1999. She received her B.A. in Journalism at Stockholm University. The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation, the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, the Threadheads Cultural Foundation, and the Louisiana Division of the Arts have supported her books.
