Gladys Love

Hello to all of you. I'm happy that you are interested enough in my book to look me up! Born and raised in Alberta, I have actually lived most of my adult life on Vancouver Island, BC (West Coast Canada), and believe the surroundings have affected my designs as well as creativity! After having tried almost everything you can think of in the area of arts and crafts, I really enjoy working with textile arts. This is my first book and the response has been rewarding (and humbling) so I think there will be more.

I've been involved in arts and craft my entire life. From a grandmother who quilted, a mother who knitted and sewed, and a father who did woodwork and even an uncle who "tats", I have always appreciated hand- made articles for their extra special value. I have a tendency to jump in at the top, and then slide down to my level of ability, allowing for lots of started projects that will get finished "later". I tend to grow from there.

I might have gotten this from my grandmother on my mother's side. She lived in Belgium and I remember a day when a parcel arrived. It had a bunch of wool, two bent needles, a partially finished piece of knitting in it (as well as goodies for my sister and me). My mother pulled it out, washed it and re-started the project. I got an additional chuckle out of this many years later when I tried to teach my mother to do macramé. Several months later I received a parcel with goodies for my children as well as a plastic bag of snaggled macrame cord and a note pinned to it saying "To h*** with this...Love Mum". So, in the end, after much experimentation, I have landed in the textile arts field and am loving every moment of it.

I design, I stitch, I teach, and now I write! Don’t hesitate to contact me if you are interested in more, or refer to my blog: fibresoul.blogspot.com
