Joey Bernal

Anthony (Joey) Bernal is a creative technical leader focused on IoT and Cloud Architecture. He has led the development of two major commercial IoT platforms from conception to General Availability. He built and led an IoT start-up recognized by both Fast Company, and Gartner, with customers in Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, and Agriculture.

A hands-on leader with solid experience in development, infrastructure, IoT hardware, and cloud and edge platforms. Joey is a creative leader focused on leading-edge technology with experience in project management and strong writing and presentation skills. He is an experienced writer (6+ books) and presenter with the leadership skills, flexibility, creativity, and technical know-how to have led the delivery of many successful products and projects and a sense of humor to enjoy still doing it. Joey has authored books on IBM WebSphere, Portal technology, Social Media, and Architecture topics and has presented on dozens of technical topics at conferences worldwide.

Previously, Joey was co-founder and President of SensorInsight, an Internet of Things startup with solutions in Agriculture, Residential, Energy, Manufacturing, and Smarter Cities; responsible for driving the direction of the company and its offerings, building partnerships with complementary technologies, and delivering value to its customers.

Joey was also the Chief Technology Officer of Element Blue. Responsible for guiding the company's technical direction both from a strategic and technical view. His primary focus is on building standards and practices across the organization, focusing on Analytics, Infrastructure and Cloud, and Digital Experience. In addition, he helped guide organizational practices and customers to ensure consistency and quality in operations and solution delivery.

Prior to that he spent 12 years with IBM in a variety of roles from Consultant to Chief Programmer.

His 7th book, "Industrial IoT for Architects and Engineers" from Packt Publishing is due out January 2023.
