Gabriel S. Weiss, M.D. is a graduate of Stanford Medical School. He earned his B.A. from the University of California at San Diego where he majored in biology and minored in philosophy.
Dr. Weiss has been an internal medicine physician for forty years. He previously served as Chief of Internal Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, California. On July 1, 2014, at age 65, Dr. Weiss retired from active medical practice.
He has practiced meditation for more than forty years. As the founder and medical director of the Asclepius Wellness Center in Oceanside, he taught meditation classes for many years. For the past eleven years, he has been a community member of the Deer Park Zen Practice Center in Escondido, California, where he practices meditation in the tradition of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh.
Dr. Weiss is the author of the book, The Healing Power of Meditation, Your Prescription for Getting Well and Staying Well with Meditation, published by Basic Health Publications, Inc. This book has been published in English, Spanish, and Chinese language editions. Gabriel Weiss also plays jazz trumpet, and as a music composer and bandleader has produced seven jazz music audio CDs. His latest CD was released on January 1, 2014, and is entitled Music Therapy. He has written and directed four educational movies, one of which, Protein Synthesis: An Epic on the Cellular Level, has become a "cult classic" in high school and college biology classes across the United States.
Dr. Weiss and his wife, Jackie, live in Vista, California. They have two grown children, Shenandoah and Jasmine.
