Retired from mediation work in 2015 after 30 years plus in the mediation business. Recently for John Crawley Mediation and People Resolutions and mainly for CMP Resolutions which I set up as Conflict Management Plus in 1989. I believe that mediation is something that people should do, rather than something that specialist practitioners do to people. Mediation transforms peoples' negative experience of conflict by restoring comunication and repairing relationships. I see it as a life role with a set of skills, values and conventions.
I'm an identical twin, father to two amazing girls and husband to a splendid wife. Third time lucky after two divorces. I've just turned 70 and that's OK. I started out many years ago as a teacher and record dealer but somehow ended up forging a career in mediation specialising in in-house mediation as a way to resolve workplace disputes and generate the capacity to respond speedily to conflict and resolve it constructively. I found that I can help other people when they disagree, and coach people to use communication to break down barriers.
I have published two paper back books 'Constructive Conflict Management' (NB Books 1992) and 'Mediation for Managers' (NB Books 2002). Mediation for Managers was translated Russian, Dutch and Thai. I was involved as the subject expert on BBC Worldwide video 'What's the Problem - Resolving Conflict at Work'. While filming this I had to borrow the producer's shirt and jacket as my blue shirt and jacket disappeared in front of the bluescreen background. I'm currently researching a novel on mediation, football and twins for release in 2022.
