Michael D. Coker

Michael D. Coker served as the curator of the visual materials collection at

the South Carolina Historical Society from 2000 to 2009. During that

time he authored numerous articles for Charleston Magaine covering various

topics of South Carolina history. In 2006 he was co-author of the S.C.

Historical Society publication "Historic South Carolina- A Pictorial

History." In August 2008 the History Press released "Charleston Curiosities: Stories of the Tragic, Heroic and Bizarre." In 2009 the History Press released "The Battle of Port Royal." He also wrote the essay "The Civil War at Charleston" for The City of Charleston Tour Guide Training Manual. Future projects include the book Arsenal of History- Charleston's Old Powder Magazine.

Michael has served as Assistant to the Director at the Old Exchange Building since 2010. He has been a speaker for various organizations, and contributor at many forums, conferences, and roundtables throughout the state

and is also a licensed tour guide for the City of Charleston. A native Charlestonian, Michael and his family reside in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
