John Tofik Karam

John Tofik Karam is director of the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies and professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His first book, Another Arabesque: Syrian-Lebanese Ethnicity in Neoliberal Brazil (Temple University Press) won awards from the Arab American National Museum and the Brazilian Studies Association and has been translated into both Arabic and Portuguese. His recently-released book is Manifold Destiny: Arabs at an American Crossroads of Exceptional Rule (Vanderbilt University Press).
