Carol Huber Cypher has lived in the Hudson Valley of New York State for her entire life. During her 22 year career as a chef, her favorite pastime outside of the kitchen always involved fiberarts: spinning, crochet, basket making, felting, and beading. She began teaching workshops in craft centers, conferences and guilds, as her schedule permitted. In 2001 she hung up her toque and apron to devote all her time and attention to beadwork and feltmaking.
Carol teaches workshops all across the U.S. and in Australia, Japan and the U.K. For a couple years she taught in the fashion program at Marist college until her schedule of international workshops overwhelmed her calendar.
Carol's first book, HAND FELTED JEWELRY AND BEADS combined her two loves: feltmaking and beadwork. The book features 25 recipes for refined and beaded jewelry hand crafted of wool.
In MASTERING BEADWORK: A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO OFF-LOOM TECHNIQUES, Carol shares 63 projects that she has taught extensively over the years. This compilation gives the reader a solid understanding of 16 bead stitches. It serves as both a textbook and an inspirational book of projects.
For her next book, she selected one hand felted item from each of 19 feltmakers she admires, and wrote HOW WE FELT to share with the reader the tricks, methods and practices that those artists employ to achieve their particular results.
Carol wrote a book on feltmaking for the Japanese craft market, published by Patchwork Tsushin, Ltd. and translated by Motoko Natsubori.
