Sandy Wood

Hi, folks -- thanks for visiting. Kara and Sandy are a happily married couple (30 years, although it seems like 29) living in Southeast Michigan. We have an old bed, an old minivan, an old dog, and an old home decorated with tacky, old pop-culture collectibles.

We've been researching and writing trivia material together since 1993. In 1995, we began hosting trivia games on America Online, and our Pop Culture Trivia game ran weekly for nearly eight years. In 2002, we became research editors for mental_floss magazine.

Since then, we've written quizzes for Discovery web sites, factoids for Reader's Digest magazine, and segments for CNN-Headline News. Our material also appeared on mental_floss and in the brand's magazines, books, calendars, and board games.

In late 2004, we signed on to provide trivia material for Snapple, which culminated in "The Snapple Aptitude Test" (Broadway Books). The paperback was published in June 2006.

In August 2006, our "Big Fat Lies" mental_floss page-a-day calendar was issued, co-written with Mangesh Hattikudur.

Our second book, "The Pocket Idiot's Guide to Not So Useless Facts" (Alpha Books) hit shelves in December 2006. Its success has led us to put together a sequel, cleverly titled "The Pocket Idiot's Guide to More Not So Useless Facts" (Alpha Books), which hit shelves in November 2007.

The "Big Fat Lies" calendar was reissued in August 2007 as well, and our fourth trivia book, "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Fun FAQs," was published by Alpha in May 2008. A digest version of this book was published in 2009.

Our fifth book, "Mental Floss Trivia," was released in November 2012, a collection of more than 800 pages of our favorite quizzes. We also contributed to Melissa & Doug's "Smarty Pants" series of educational cards, now available nationwide.

Kara's work for mental_floss has been featured on the front page of several news organizations, including The New York Times, CNN, and The Wall Street Journal. She was a guest on NPR's "Talk of the Nation" in 2011.
