Graeme Wright

A New Zealander who has lived in London for more than 40 years, Graeme Wright was Editor of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack 1987-1992 and 2001-2002. He is the only non-Englishman to fill this role. His 1993 book Betrayal: The Struggle for Cricket's Soul, runner-up for that year's William Hill Sports Book of the Year award, was described by Simon Heffer in the Spectator as "One of the most enlightened, thoughtful and disturbing books ever written on the game". Christopher Martin-Jenkins in the Daily Telegraph called it "Outstandingly intelligent and observant".

Wright was deputy editor of the sports part-work The Game and managing editor of publisher Queen Anne Press before becoming a freelance writer and editor in 1974. Before coming to England, he worked for the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation as a writer, and also presented a weekly country music programme, a musical taste which, his Amazon shopping list will confirm, remains strong today.

The second volume of his Mackie's Law trilogy, This Far South, set in New Zealand, was published in 2020.
