Chris D.

Chris D. is the pseudonym for Chris Desjardins the author of the novels MOTHER'S WORRY, SHALLOW WATER, NO EVIL STAR and the collection DRAGON WHEEL SPLENDOR and Other Love Stories of Violence and Dread, all from Poison Fang Books. His anthology A MINUTE TO PRAY, A SECOND TO DIE, a 500-page collection of short stories, excerpts from unpublished novels and scores of dream journal entries, as well as all of his poetry and song lyrics, was published in December 2009 from New Texture. His non-fiction OUTLAW MASTERS OF JAPANESE FILM was published by IB Tauris (distributed by Palgrave Macmillan in the USA) in 2005. He saw release of his first feature film as director I PASS FOR HUMAN, in 2004 (and its DVD release in 2006), and worked as a programmer at The American Cinematheque in Hollywood, California from 1999-2009. Chris D. is also known as the singer/songwriter of the bands, The Flesh Eaters, Divine Horsemen and Stone by Stone. The Flesh Eaters' most recent release is the acclaimed "I Used to be Pretty" album, released by Yep Roc Records in January, 2019. Chris was also an A&R rep and in-house producer at Slash Records/Ruby Records from 1980-1984, involved in shaping early seminal works of such artists as The Gun Club ("Fire of Love" LP), The Dream Syndicate ("The Days of Wine and Roses" LP), The Misfits ("Walk Among Us" LP), Green on Red ("Gravity Talks" LP) and The Lazy Cowgirls (their debut album on Restless Records). He taught film genre and film history courses part-time, commuting to San Francisco from his residence in Los Angeles, 2009–2013. His long-in-the-works non-fiction over 800 pages GUN AND SWORD: An Encyclopedia of Japanese Gangster Films 1955-1980 from Poison Fang Books, was published in the spring of 2013. His latest fiction includes the novels VOLCANO GIRLS and TIGHTROPE ON FIRE, both from the Poison Fang Books imprint, published autumn, 2013. In the autumn of 2020, Chris D. published two books by other authors: BACK SEAT BABY poetry by Nicca Ray, drawings by Jesse McCloskey, foreword by Ann Magnuson; and YOU USED TO KNOW ME a fictional memoir (novella) by m.c. nuto, foreword by Danny Bland. Chris D.'s WRITING FOR SLASH 1977 – 1981: The Know-It-All Years, is a non-fiction collection of music reviews, preface by Byron Coley, foreword by Andy Schwartz, published by Poison Fang Books in October of 2022. Chris D. published new books through Poison Fang Books by m.c. nuto, the novel CATCH ME NOW I'M FALLING and Nicca Ray/Jesse McCloskey, a poetry collection w/ drawings GO GO GO GIRL in the summer of 2024. Chris D.'s latest is the 2025 Update Edition of his 2009 collection of writing, A MINUTE TO PRAY, A SECOND TO DIE, now over 598 pages. His 800+ pages mega non-fiction film study, THE HUMANITY OF FEMMES FATALES AND HEARTLESS VILLAINS: International Noir and Beyond Genre, is tentatively scheduled for release by the end of 2025.
