Chief Ron Graner, fire chief, public safety consultant (retired), and author, has worked across every facet of the fire rescue service in both volunteer and career roles for over 50 years. He has often applied his belief in economies of scale and has consistently supported the management philosophy that the benefits of scale used by modern successful businesses must apply to government services. That philosophy has repeatedly proven that broad-scope administration of fire and Emergency Medical Service agencies improves service delivery, training, and enhances the safety of emergency responders and the public.
Chief Graner served as the Fire Chief of three agencies in two states. He has been in Volunteer agencies and solid-union and non-union agencies in a right-to-work state. Today, he lives in a community served by a combination department where Volunteers serve their communities seamlessly, hand in hand with career-paid employees. Chief Graner served the Commission on Fire Accreditation International of the Center for Public Safety Excellence as a Peer Assessor and Team Leader, and as the reviewer of annual compliance reports from accredited agencies for over 15 years. With the CFAI, he traveled across the country to meet dedicated team members and leaders from large and small fire-rescue agencies to evaluate their ongoing efforts to improve and ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and safety of their operations.
