Andrew Noakes did a degree in automotive engineering but decided writing about cars would be more fun than designing them. He joined Fast Car as a staff writer and in nine years with the same publisher rose to editor in chief of Classics, before going freelance in 2002. Since then he has written for a wide range of car magazines and websites and is the author of more than 20 books on cars and motorsport. He is a past chairman of The Guild of Motoring Writers, and alongside his media work he runs Coventry University's unique Masters degree course in automotive journalism.
