C. N. Van der Merwe

Chris van der Merwe is a retired literary scholar who spent much of his professional life as Professor in Dutch and Afrikaans Literature at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He has written numerous academic articles and chapters in books and is also the author, co-author or editor of sixteen books on Literature and Literary Theory.

Much of his research focused on literary narratives and trauma and on literature and spirituality.

As an intellectual living in a post-postmodern world, Chris currently spends much of his time contemplating aspects of Christian spirituality and the complexities of the relation between Christianity and secular society.
